MG CARS BACK IN FULL EFFECT IN THE UK

MG, the old British brand which is now owned by Chinese company Nanjing Automobile Group, has relaunched itself in the United Kingdom. Quite strange that a marque which was started in the UK has now been sold to the Chinese and is now selling cars back to UK customers. Bygones.

The new MG 6 is being built in the UK, not in China, unlike the China version of the car. Both cars are virtually identical though. The engine is a 1.8 turbo petrol making 118kW. There could be a diesel, actually, there should be a diesel coming later, since the UK is diesel-mad. Transmission is a 5-speed manual.

The car features McPherson struts upfront, and a multi-link rear setup. Steering is said to be progressive power-assisted.  There are at least four airbags in the basic S model, which additional specs added to higher SE and TSE variants. Such specs include Bluetooth connectivity, leather seats, rear parking aid, cruise control, satellite navigation and dual-zone air conditioning.

Prices will be announced closer to the UK launch which happens over the next couple of months.

The success or lack thereof, of the new MG range, will determine how much traction the company gets internationally, including in SA where it had some mild successes in the early 2000s.
