Kaizer Chiefs right back defender Jimmy Tau is the recipient of a brand new Nissan Qashqai Acenta 2.0 dCi, after winning the coveted Player of the Year Award at the Kaizer Chiefs Awards ceremony, held on Wednesday evening (29 June 2011) at the Theatre on the Track, Kyalami. The event coincided with Kaizer Chiefs 41st anniversary and Nissan South Africa’s 10th year of sponsoring the legendary team, currently placed third on the premier soccer league (PSL) log.
A delighted Tau said he was thrilled to have picked up the title - voted by Kaizer Chiefs peers - and the chance to drive Nissan’s flagship sports utility vehicle (SUV). “I am joining an elite group of Kaizer Chiefs soccer players who have not only have earned the respect of their fellow team-mates but have also been privileged to be associated with the Nissan brand through the company’s longstanding sponsorship of the team and the Player of the Year Award.”
Nissan SA was delighted to hand over the award-winning crossover Nissan Qashqai, renowned for its design and build quality, to yet another outstanding Kaizer Chiefs player. Said Nissan SA’s general manager of marketing and planning Ivan Ollivier, “Like Nissan, Kaizer Chiefs has a long and proud heritage in South Africa. We recognise that our association with such a powerful institution, that has produced - and continues to produce - a wealth of South Africa soccer talent, is an opportunity to showcase our brand to the club’s significant following.”
Past Kaizer Chiefs Player of the Year winners and recipients of Nissan vehicles include goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune (2008), mid-fielder Siphiwe ‘Shabba’ Tshabalala (2009) - famous for his opening goal in the 2010 World Cup - and veteran goalkeeper Arthur Bartman (2010).
